I have always loved driving, growing up I couldn’t wait to get behind the wheel and drive. Sports cars have always been a passion of mine and I have subscribed to Car Magazine for more than 20 years. I have always had a love for the Porsche 911.
The 911 was the car that won all the group tests, had the best handling and was the car the journalist eagerly anticipated driving the most.
A history and pedigree: the 911 has it all.
The 911 Carrera was the car I always wanted when I was growing up, the car I enjoyed reading about the most; the poster car on the bedroom wall.
With over one million 911 cars having been produced, it was a dream come true to collect my new GT Silver Carrera 4S in September 2016 from Porsche Centre Kendal.
My car has a fantastic specification with the Carbon Interior Pack, Rear Axle steer, Black Satin Wheels, PDK and the immense Sports Exhaust.
The final touch was to have secured my special number plate for the car too, 911 DWH.
I had registered my interest in a 911 GT3 back in 2014, unfortunately the centre had sold all their allocation of GT3 cars. Since the 991.1 GT3 has been such a hit with the motoring world, the second-generation car with the new and larger capacity 4.0L naturally aspirated engine was sure to be well and truly oversubscribed.
As time progressed I just could not wait to get my hands on a 911 so went ahead with the 4S order whist hoping Porsche Kendal would be in a position to offer me an allocation on the 991.2 GT3 when it was launched.
When the 2017 GT3 was launched at the Geneva Motor Show, Porsche Kendall got in touch with me to let me know they could get me a car, and I paid my deposit later that day. It was a surreal moment knowing that the car of my dreams would be coming. I still can hardly believe it.
It made the trip to the 2017 Geneva Motor show all the more exciting as I enjoyed Porsche hospitality, whilst being able to see the newly unveiled GT3. The launch colour of Guards Red looked very special indeed.
The GT3 is surely the best drivers car money can buy at its price point, nothing else can touch it. The motoring world has acclaimed it as the sport car in a category of one.
The firmer suspension set up and bucket seats help to connect the driver to the road making the experience raw and exciting.
The new 4.0L aspirated flat six engine, howling in the rear as you go through the gearbox, is intoxicating. It will have to see a few laps of a track for sure.
It was great to finally have my specification locked down as my GT3 will soon go into build at the factory ahead of its delivery in December 2017 to Porsche Centre Kendal.
I have decided upon a great specification. I love the Crayon Colour, it really changes around on you and never looks the same twice. The Carbon Ceramic Brakes, Bucket seats and Roll cage will make for a sporty look and feel inside. I cannot wait to strap myself into the red racing harness, select launch control and hit it.
The GT3 will also have some other touches to the spec that I really wanted like the yellow seat belts and carbon wing mirrors too, the full bucket seats will match the carbon interior package well, with gentle touch of yellow in the floor mats to tie in with the yellow brake callipers.
I guess my dream car needed to have a dream specification and it does.
